A Brighter Future For Yvonne

Yvonne's Story

Yvonne* fled her violent husband and established a new life with her teenage children. Underweight, anxious and with no financial security, Yvonne struggled to make ends meet. On the brink of homelessness, Yvonne turned to HKWS for help.

Living with her friend after her children grew up and moved, Yvonne was unable to pay rent, find employment or manage her increasing debt.

Arriving at HKWS, Yvonne was frightened and worried about her and her children’s future.

HKWS’ case workers set to work mapping out a plan to help Yvonne transform her life. With a safe haven at HKWS, Yvonne could access medical, dental and mental health support along with education and employment opportunities.

Yvonne worked so hard to improve every aspect of her life. Yvonne undertook a course, completed her resume and was thrilled to get a part-time cleaning role.

With the help of a financial advisor, Yvonne organised repayment plans for her debts and began budgeting for the first time. Before she left the Shelter, Yvonne gained stable share accommodation.

Once panicky and stressed, Yvonne transformed over three months with a new sense of self and confidence to begin her new, bright future.
